Important Articulate Rise Information
May 5, 2018
As mentioned in a previous article, professionCube uses Articulate Rise to create courses. As of the release of iOS 11.3 that runs iPhones and iPads, there is an issue with activity interactions using draggable techniques. This includes the sorting activity as well as matching questions. These interactions work fine on desktop, but as the point of Articulate Rise is mobile responsive courses, this is a critical issue that hopefully will be addressed soon. Until then, feel free to skip these activities on professionCube courses if you are on Apple mobile devices or you can complete them on desktop. I will provide a blog update as soon as things are fixed. If you are technically inclined and want to know more about the issue, you can read on.
With the release of iOS 11.3, issues were first reported by Atlassian, the cloud-based agile software organization, that mobile drag features were not working properly in iOS 11.3. The issue has been isolated to scrolling features not being canceled upon listener events being fired on a mobile page. This issue was reported on Webkit's Bugzilla site. The behavior in the Articulate Rise interaction is this: As you try to drag items onto targets, the page will scroll, making completing the interaction impossible.
My experience with Apple is that these issues are not always seen as "bugs" by Apple. Sometimes, the organization changes core technologies that vendors rely upon without publicizing the change and different techniques to be used. Perhaps this issue is a true bug and will be fixed in an upcoming release iOS. Otherwise, we will need to wait for Articulate to come up with a new technique for drag and drop interactions for Apple mobile devices.
Stay tuned. Thanks to Articulate's support for sharing the root of the Rise issues with me.
